Amber Caspian is another of the fabulous artists taking part in our ‘Fairytale’ Exhibiton – on now!
“I have loved witches and fairytales since early childhood being enchanted by the drawings and silhouettes of Arthur Rackham and Jan Pienkowski. Later I turned creatively to this subject painting them in watercolour and ink. I am inspired by folk and faery stories, dreams, nature, spirit, ancient landscapes and beautiful worlds”
Local artist Amber Caspian is a fan of the magical and the mythical and this is evident in her illustrative paintings.

Brought up in Thaxted, Amber Caspian returned to Essex after many years living and working in London. After leaving school she completed a Ceramics degree in Bristol and discovered print-making and collage as a way of exploring patterns and form. While in London she studied oil painting the human figure, particularly portraiture, as well as taking a Diploma in Counselling. All these disciplines influence her work.

“I would describe myself as a painter and maker of imagery and objects relating to archetypal mythology and faery tales, particularly about women and nature. I also write poems as part of my creative process.”
Travels across flame-coloured deserts in America, around exquisite templesat Angkor, Cambodia, and frozen lakes in Arctic Sweden greatly inspire her. Whether it be with paint, print, paper, clay, wood or cloth and thread, Amber uses a variety of techniques to express herself.
